2024 - Gala Dinner

That maestro Greg Rutherford (and others) had been slaving all afternoon over the hot stoves (apart from going to the Ardath pub for lunch) and the hall smelt like a 5-star Michelin restaurant by the time we all walked in.

Like last time we met, you really had to push in to join a conversation and shout to get yourself heard – it was a bit like being in the school yard really!

Eventually the hot dishes came out ready for our consumption – but we wondered where the other 50 people were coming from to eat all the food!

The dishes prepared by master chef Greg and his helpers included: roast lamb, fish, apricot chicken, roast potato/sweet potato, roast pumpkin, brussels, other vegetables, cous cous, ratatouille and probably some other things I may have missed.

Like last night, the volume in the room had a positive correlation with the number of drinks consumed – a relationship that increased exponentially!

A little later the we ran a quiz mostly about Bruce Rock in the 1970s.  Kylie Whitehead and Peter Pascoe being the winners of the two meaningless prizes.

Everyone made it back to their respective abodes safely to work up some hunger for even more food tomorrow.

But we had blue table clothes in 2014
